Cornzebo update

I haven't posted lately but I have alot to share... however I don't have time today.  I wanted to share a recent picture of the cornzebo.  We used found rocks and created a flower bed around it.  Now that the flowers are growing the cornzebo looks much more like it belongs with our house.  What do you think?

I'll be back another day to catch you up on my adventures and projects.

Man is it hot outside... and a few things from July 2011

Work on the cornzebo has been disappointingly slow.
It's been too hot to work on it.
I borrowed my SIL Sherman's truck a couple of
Saturday's ago and got some pea gravel from the local
quarry.

It took me a couple of hours to unload.  My furry
helper wasn't much help.  He wanted to lay in the doorway
of the cornzebo, or stand on the gravel, anywhere that
was inconvenient. :)

I used a small grinding stone in the center.

You may remember the red bird we made earlier in
the year.  Well now its perched in a large patch of
daisies.

I made this little planter for my desk and
added one of my smaller hand crafted
found object wooden dragonflies.

Since the cornzebo isn't round, and more
octagonal, and I laid the footer pavers underneath
the corncrib free hand, I'm afraid it will be a
huge undertanking to try to lay a solid brick
floor.  So I decided to add pea gravel and try
to create an old abandoned relic type feel.  Like
it's been there forever.  I started out thinking maybe
brick sections large enough for the chairs surrounded
by gravel but I'm not feeling it.  So, I think I'm going to
continue the round center out, and see where it takes me.
Any ideas?

We made this bench out of limbs that came out in a huge storm.
It's one of my favorite things.  This year its starting to
grow fungai on it.

We hung this old kettle in the trees for a robin to nest in, but
alas no birds have yet called it home.  I guess I'll be moving it
before next spring.

This is a $5 wheelbarrow missing the tire.  I found the
old wheel in someones trash and drug it home.  Hubby
added it to this wheelbarrow for me.  Love the way it
looks now full of blooms.

I have always liked this crooked old brick.

I have been wanting to tear up our stained, ugly carpet for several
years but my husband said we needed it.  Well, he went to work
one day, and I didn't.  Bye bye carpet!  I just couldn't live with
it another day.  I had to cut around the heavy tv cabinet, and a very
large cupboard, until hubby could help me remove the last of it.
He wasn't happy abut it, but has pretty much gotten over it. :)

This pig was my mothers. It guards my shed now.

I bought my first new piece of furniture. I'm 53 and just bought something
new.  Hubby and I like to recline when we watch tv, so we got something
new.  I tore the carpet up the morning this was to be delivered.

One more thing:  We hung some cute lights up around the
round brick patio and pond.  I love them.  They remind
me of the days when I went to camp as a kid.
They're hard to take a pic of so maybe I'll show
them off later.

We enjoyed everyone who came to our July 4th cookout
and watched the fireworks with us.  Thanks for making
our day special.

Unexpected visitor, what's blooming now, found object planter,

We had an unexpected visitor to the corncrib gazebo today. This Cecropia Moth has been hanging out with us.  It is very large and absolutely beautiful.  Fortunately he was up high enough that our mischevious and carniverous felines couldn't get ahold of it.

A few weeks ago I had a very lush bed of hosta and ferns. It was very full and beautiful.  Thanks to the 3 kittens we have, the ferns have been destroyed.  I created this planter to keep the cats our of a pot of petunias.  I used a section of double walled stove pipe we had in the garage, and an old milk strainer.  My hanging planter just fit inside the strainer.  I set a broken brick in the bottom of the strainer to raise the hanging pot up a bit, and removed the hanger.  I painted it metalic blue today.  I love how blue pops in the garden.  What do you think?

corncrib gazebo

I worked for my employer, or in the yard until early evening when hubby went fishing at Lake Erie.  For some reason he and the boys like to night fish.  Don't take me wrong, I'm not complaining.  It is extremely rare I get "ME" time, or the house to myself, so I was practically counting the minutes until they left.

Once gone, I weeded a couple unruly flower beds, and began leveling the dirt under the cornzebo.

I think I'll use this old grinding stone for the center, and radiate red brick out from there.  I still have 908 I bought at a yard sale last summer.

I'm thinking about using these gray pavers around the outside edge for the actual corncrib wire frame to sit on.
These are the bricks I have left that I bought at a yard sale last summer.

I have a four day weekend next weekend.  I hope to have this completed by then.... I'll keep you posted.

I wish I could make these pictures scratch and sniff...

I took a vacation day today to do some things that occasionally need done during the week.  While I'm waiting for our attorney to get to his office, I thought I'd take a walk around the yard and check out what's blooming today.  The air is heady with the smell of roses, peonias and honeysuckle.  I wish I could make the pictures scratch and sniff so you could enjoy it also.  But since I can't here are a few pictures I hope you enjoy.

My buttercups just started blooming yesterday
I added an old piece of mirror to the back of the shed window to help reflect the light and add depth to the window box.

These two roses are covering the new gazebo nicely. They are just full of gorgeous blooms.

And this rose is certainly an over achiever. It's also incorporating the new corncrib gazebo into the landscape.

More roses. I love this peach colored one. It is absolutely covered in beautiful fragrant flowers.

This old white rose only blooms in the spring, but the smell is intoxicating. You can smell this rose clear across the yard.  I'm told this rose is as old as the house... my house was built in 1882.
I love this red rose with the blue delphinium, the white pickets and the brick.

This white climbing rose was planted last year, and is covering an arbor that leads into the vegetable garden.

Here's another very fragrant flower and my favorite peonia. It's so fantastically fragrant.  I wish you could smell it...

A close up of one of the roses covering my corncrib gazebo.  Isn't it pretty.

Kittens in the garden.  Who doesn't love kittens..... If I could only keep them off the plants.

My Mom gave me this old wagon.  She bought it at a sale because she hated to see it unloved.  My hen and chicks love this wagon and so do I.

My delphiniums are just beginning to bloom.  I use an old fireplace screen to help support them.  It works great.

One of my iris paired with some bottle art. I love the colors.

At old mailbox turned into a planter.

A face hanging on the side of our house.  This says it all.  Spring if FINALLY here.
